INSTITUTIONAL
CHANDLER PARK PRIMARY SCHOOL
CLIENT: PATRICK ARCHITECTS
Gillon Consulting Group provided Civil and Structural Engineering services on this project.
The project involved the demolition of the existing school building, the construction of a new learning centre building and a separate Creative Arts Studio.
Due to the slope of the site and poor ground conditions found under the proposed Creative Arts Studio, the ground slab for that building needed to be suspended over screw piles.
The civil works were challenging as disabled access requirements were required to all building foundations adjacent to existing non-compliant pavements. This was achieved with a mixture of retaining walls and ramps.

The path on the north-west side of the stadium was designed to direct overland storm flows from the batter around the building.
BALLARAT TECHNICAL SCHOOL
CLIENT: PATRICK ARCHITECTS
Gillon Consulting Group provided Civil and Structural Engineering services on this project.
The project involved the refurbishment of an existing two storey building of Federation University in Ballarat. As part of the DET’s Technical School program, the building was to become the new Ballarat Technical School.
The project involved the construction of a new entry foyer and a front façade to the existing building. A section of the existing suspended slab was required to be removed to create space in the entry area and the lift was installed to provide access between levels.
The existing building was built over a steeply sloping site in Ballarat. Due to the slope, the ground floor slab and columns where supported and deep pad footings and bored piers. As a result the new entry foyer needed to be supported on footings founded at a similar depth.
Retaining walls were required to retain the existing sloping ground under the building which created issues with constructing these walls under the existing ground floor slab.
